ATA - American Translators Association

ATA is the largest association of professional translators and interpreters in the US, with a membership of over 5,000. It promotes the training of translators at colleges and universities. Translators that want to become ATA accredited members have to successfully pass the ATA certification program.

FIT - Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs

This is an international association of Translators. FIT is the author of Vade Mecum, a publication which gives a brief history of the organization, its bylaws, and other pertinent information. Available in English and French.

IEI - Istituto Educazione Italiana

The Istituto Educazione Italiana offers Italian language and culture courses for adults and children on the campus of Menlo College in Atherton. Members enjoy free or discounted admission to cultural and culinary events and discounts from local selected Italian merchants.

NCTA - Northern California Translators Association

Regional professional association of translators and interpreters, a chapter of the American Translators Association (ATA). Aims are to address the needs and concerns of professional translators and interpreters, to provide guidance to those entering the field, and to further the profession in terms of standards and public recognition. Membership is open to individuals, businesses, and institutions engaged in translation or interpretation. NCTA's activities and services include: a monthly magazine, the Translorial; a Professional Section in the Directory of Translators and Interpreters and a Telephone and On-Line Referral Service to promote professionally qualified members; Quarterly general meetings for networking and general-interest programs; Professional publications such as A Practical Guide for Translators; semi-annual local sittings of the ATA accreditation exam; specialized continuing education workshops; on-line Referral Service as part of the NCTA web site. NCTA now has an arrangement with the Media Alliance allowing members to access group condition insurance with various HMOs.

NOTIS - Northwest Translators and Interpreters Society

NOTIS was established in April, 1988 as a forum for professional translators and interpreters in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. NOTIS is a cooperating group of the American Translators Association (ATA), a professional society with over 6,000 members throughout the United States and overseas.
